Pennisetum clandestinum cv K-54
Oakridge® is a non-seeding male sterile variety of kikuyu grass with medium bright green leaves (3-5mm wide and 30-40mm long in mown turf). It was selected from a naturalised area growing on the Darling Downs for more than 70 years. Because of its high altitude origin (500 metres above sea level), Oakridge® shows better cold tolerance than other kikuyu strains, maintaining growth and colour well into autumn-early winter and tolerating light winter frosts. It shows moderate to good shade tolerance. Oakridge® kikuyu spreads by above ground stolons and underground rhizomes which both aid with recovery and provide improved turf density compared to older kikuyu varieties.
Why is a Oakridge Kikuyu Lawn so Good?
Oakridge ® is a non-seeding male sterile variety of kikuyu grass with medium bright green leaves (3-5mm wide and 30-40mm long in mown turf). It was selected from a naturalised area growing on the Darling Downs for more than 70 years.
Because of its high altitude origin (500 metres above sea level), Oakridge shows better cold tolerance than other kikuyu strains, maintaining growth and colour well into autumn-early winter and tolerating light winter frosts. Oakridge’s high shoot density gives good resistance to wear, and recovery is rapid from surface stolons and underground rhizomes. It shows moderate to good shade tolerance. Oakridge is a uniform, high quality turf variety that has been planted successfully for home lawns and on golf courses (tees), sports fields and race tracks.
